While some guests arrive by train and take a taxi to Hawthorn Farm, getting around on foot to local cafes and pubs requires a willingness to walk at least 1.5 to 2 miles (approx. 30–40 minutes) each way.
🚕 Taxis (Including Wheelchair Accessible)
Because we are in a rural area, we highly recommend booking taxis in advance, especially for train station pick-ups or weekend outings.
- Sandwich Cars: 01304 617424 (Closest to us)
- Village Cars (Sandwich): 01304 613000
- Canterbury Wheelchair Taxis: 01227 469046 (Specialist wheelchair-accessible service)
- CabCo Canterbury: 01227 455455 (Large fleet, including accessible vehicles)
🚌 Buses
The nearest bus stop is in the centre of Ash (approx. 1.5 miles from the cottages), near the Chequer Inn pub.
- Route 43: Connects Canterbury, Wingham, and Sandwich.
- Frequency: Generally runs every 30 minutes during the day (less frequent on Sundays).
- Timetable: View the Stagecoach 43 Timetable here
🚂 Trains
We are lucky to be within reach of several stations, depending on where you are travelling from:
- Sandwich Train Station CT13 9JR (6.1 miles): Trains to Deal, Ramsgate and Broadstairs, Ashford International, or London
- Minster Train Station CT12 4HX (10.2 miles): Trains to Canterbury
- Ramsgate Train Station CT11 7RE (10.8 miles): Trains to London (St Pancras)
- Canterbury West CT2 8AN (11.8 miles): Trains to London (St Pancras International)
- Canterbury East CT1 2RB (11.1 miles): Trains to London (Victoria)
- Ashford International TN23 1EZ (26.1 miles): Trains to London Charing Cross/St. Pancras/Victoria, Eastbourne, Hastings
TIP: If you are arriving by train with heavy luggage, we recommend getting off at Sandwich or Canterbury West and pre-booking a taxi to meet you. Walking from the Ash bus stop with suitcases is quite a trek along country lanes with limited pavements!
